Learning Style Part 2

After taking the online test my scores were as follows: Visual 3, Aural 7, Read/Write 1, and Kinesthetic 5.  I think my scores were very accurate with my learning style and I’m not surprised at the results.  I have always said to people just tell me what you want me to do.  I don’t respond well to reading chapters and answering questions.  I always try to provide my students with hands on activities and rephrasing/reading directions to them instead of just letting them figure it out on their own.
Test Questions
1.   What are the learning styles? The seven different types of learning styles are visual, aural, verbal, physical, logical, social, and solitary.  Visual is pictures and images.  Aural is sound and music.  Verbal is speech and writing.  Physical is hands on activities.  Logical is reasoning out the information.  Social is group learning.  Solitary is working alone.
2.   How can awareness of learning styles improve performance in a learning environment? I think that by understanding that everyone learns and understands information being delivered by teachers differently as the teacher I need to be aware of this and provide many different ways of communicating material to students.  I’m sure that many students feel that reading chapters and answer questions is very boring just like I do.
Does any of this matter? I think that it matters to me as a teacher if I’m interesting in reaching every student in my classroom.  Being aware of different learning styles within my classroom will increase my abilities as the teacher to teach.
What did I do?
I had to evaluate my learning style by answering questions.
What did I learn?
That your learning style is not allows what you think it is.
How will I use it?
I will be able to have my students take this test to see what type of learning style fits them.
ISTE NETS-T Standards

I think that the standard that is most related to this activity is 4-b and 5-c.  This standard address needs of all learners have an equal opportunity to learn by using different teaching strategies so that all students can grasp the curriculum.  By teachers understanding that students all learn differently they can better prepare to teach.  The second standard allows me to evaluate and reflect on current professional practice and use of existing digital tools.
